Child Care Quality Assessments

Children's Council is a partner in a citywide project supporting child care quality. The quality assessment is an important component of professional support. The Gateway to Quality project offers assessments to help providers meet standards of excellence. These services are free.

Gateway uses the nationally recognized Harms/Clifford quality assessment instruments. They are the Family Day Care Rating Scale (FDCRS), the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS), and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS).

Quality assessment scores are now used to be eligible for city child care initiatives, such as CARES and Infant/Toddler grants. Our Family Child Care Program also uses these scales.
