Black Early Educator Policy Council Publishes Historic Recommendations

Congratulations to Children’s Council’s Black Early Educator Policy Council on the publication of Advancing San Francisco’s Black Children Through Quality Early Care & Education: Policy & Systems Change Recommendations For Early Education Policymakers.

This is truly a historic achievement, giving a voice to our community of Black child care educators, many of whom have worked tirelessly for decades to support generations of families in SF.

The purpose of a document of this nature — also known as a “white paper” — is to inform, advocate and offer recommendations in order to influence decision-making.

The paper was recently presented to the San Francisco Department of Early Childhood, Mayor London Breed’s staffers and a host of city officials. Children’s Council will strive to ensure these recommendations are at the center of early care & education conversations about policies and funding discussions in the coming months and years.

Children’s Council’s Black Early Educator Policy Council was formed as a stakeholder group with early childhood experts from across San Francisco. This twenty-two plus member council, comprised of industry experts from a variety of ECE settings, were tasked with providing insight, analysis and racial justice recommendations centered on improving student outcomes for Black children ages 0-5.
