An Important Message from Children’s Council Board Chair Rehana Abbas
Hello friends and community members,
As Board Chair at Children’s Council of San Francisco, I am writing today to inform you of an important change happening at our organization.
After nearly five years as President & CEO of Children’s Council, Dr. Gina Fromer recently informed the Children’s Council Board of Directors that she will be pursuing a new challenge. There will be an announcement about Gina’s new opportunity soon.
Gina has supported the children and families of San Francisco with incredible passion and dedication, both at Children’s Council and at so many other mission-driven organizations over the course of her career. Gina and her team were at the helm of Children’s Council during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we have deep gratitude for her leadership through that time, which was especially difficult for many families with young children.
Thanks to Gina, we emerged as a more resilient community, with stronger convictions about the vital importance of making quality child care and preschool a reality for all children in our city.
Under Gina’s leadership, Children’s Council grew to a $240 million organization with a staff of 135. Gina was the guiding force behind the organization’s visionary five year strategic plan, adopted in the summer of 2020, which is on track. And, we are well under way for a celebration of Children’s Council’s 50th anniversary in 2024. Together, we look forward to our next 50 years of service to our community.

Looking ahead, the board is confident in the excellent leadership team and staff at Children’s Council. While we begin the search for a new CEO, including forming a search committee and engaging an executive search firm, the board has named Eric Fischer, Children’s Council’s Chief Financial Officer, as Interim CEO.
Eric will work closely with the leadership team, staff, and board to ensure that Children’s Council will continue to provide impactful stewardship of the resources and services that are so critical to our city’s families, children, and early educators.
Please join me in congratulating Gina on her incredible tenure at Children’s Council, as we wish her success on her next endeavors.
In community,
Rehana Abbas
Board Chair, Children’s Council of San Francisco
