Children’s Council in the News: The Trauma of Parental Separation
Thank you ABC7 News for reporting on this critical issue!
A Honduran mother who was separated from her baby at the U.S.-Mexico border is speaking out after she was recently reunited with her daughter at SFO.
Children’s Council’s Amie Latterman discusses the long-term effects of trauma on infants: “The child’s brain was developing in a significant way during those two months… 80 percent of brain development happens in the first three years. Every minute that they’re exposed to this kind of serious trauma, their brain functionality and development is being affected.”
