Staff Spotlight: Margarita Spataro

Years at Children’s Council:

3 years

How I contribute to the success of Children’s Council:

I work with individuals who are launching their child care business and help make the process less daunting. I provide them with direct one-on-one coaching to get through the licensing process. I also create content for Marketing & Digital Marketing, and deliver workshops about Business Finances and Preparing for Business Taxes.

Background:

I have been in the nonprofit sector providing services and support to San Francisco families for over 18 years with a focus on youth and families. I am a San Francisco native and mother of two children. I have done just about everything in the nonprofit space, from providing direct service in after-school programs, data management, bookkeeping, program management, and communications. My well-rounded background and strong administrative skills has given me the tools and experience to support our child care educators with their businesses.

Proudest moment:

This past June during the Dream Keeper Celebration for our new Black businesses, we honored 10 new child care providers who completed our program, took our workshops, became licensed and received a $10,000 startup grant. I loved meeting them all in person and handing them their certificates.

What inspires you each day:

I am inspired by the people I meet each day and get to help. I love helping people.

Favorite thing about working at Children’s Council:

I love the people who work at Children’s Council. It is an amazing group of dedicated staff who really care about the communities they work with.

Greatest challenge:

Not having enough hours in the day.

What you would do with a large donation:

Expand our Incubator Team services, fund more startup grants for our new providers, and begin developing more support for providers to work with children with special needs.
