Maria Matus
Child Care Family Services Supervisor
My family immigrated from Nicaragua in 1979. I was born and raised in San Francisco (Outer Sunset District). As an adolescent, i saw the struggles and obstacles my parents and people of color went through. I wanted to help and give people who thought they didn’t have a voice or the empowerment to speak & be heard. My passion/career for empowering disenfranchised communities began in 2003 while working at the Family Resource Center (City College of San Francisco). I organized resource fairs, fundraisers and family support groups. Helping families with education, housing, medical needs and child care options. Once I obtained my Health Education & prevention Certificate I wanted to do and create a bigger impact (Specifically with families and early education).
I feel privileged and honored to say i have been working with the Children’s Council of San Francisco since August of 2008. I began as a Family Services Specialist and recently promoted (Feb 2023) to Family Services Supervisor where i continue to support families and early educators along with supporting our great Family Service Specialists staff on their day to day tasks.
On my free time, i enjoy working out/taking walks and spending time with family.
